It's a good enough interim solve, but I would like to figure out the core problem. This then solves the issue, but going via a hub potentially brings other problems like audio streaming glitches.

I have managed to find a workaround and that is to connect the interface via a USB Hub to the iMac. I tried the interface on an older laptop (also running 10.14.5) and it works fine - no Bluetooth issues on disconnect.

If I use the interface just with Mac OS & Audio Midi Setup (eg: to listen to iTunes via my studio monitors) then the problem doesn't happen. The problem only occurs when I use the audio interface through an app like Ableton Live / Bitwig Studio / Adobe Audition. What happens is Bluetooth is killed (in the Mac Menu the Bluetooth icon has the zigzag line) and since my keyboard and trackpad are Bluetooth, the only way for me to continue using my Mac is to hard restart the machine.

I recently purchased a MOTU Ultralite MK4 audio interface but there is a problem when I disconnect the interface whether that is by switching off the interface or unplugging the USB cable. I have the new Ultralite MK5 and it can work as a standalone From MOTU: Built for studio and stage Housed in a compact, steel enclosure you can take anywhere, the UltraLite-mk5 is equally well-suited for studio and stage, with or without a computer. I'm using a bluetooth Apple keyboard and trackpad. What I read, the mk4 needs some kind of computer (iPad) control connection. Hello I have a late 2015 iMac running latest Mac OS (10.14.5).
